General Information:

Destination Vietnam is a 10-day study abroad program during winter break.  This program combines a unique blend of academic, corporate and cultural experiences to expose students to one of one of the fastest growing emerging economies in Asia.

Known as the ‘Tiger cub of Asia’, Vietnam’s economy has experienced an unprecedented amount of growth over the last few years.  As Vietnam continues its upward trajectory, students visiting the country during the see early stages of growth will allow them to witness an emerging market in the making.

Students will also participate in a 3 credit course: IB3580 - Destination Vietnam: Doing Business in Vietnam.  This course is part of the Special Topics: Emerging Markets Series of IB.  Students will do pre-departure work/research, engage in in-country events, develop and deliver a research paper (prior to Spring Break) on a topic related to Vietnam.  Students should meet the following criteria to participate in the course: 1) enrolled full-time at the time of application; 2) must have completed one year of full-time study or the equivalent; 3) a cumulative GPA of 3.00 will receive preference.

Fees:

The program fee of approximately $1,950 USD will cover all domestic travel within Vietnam, hotel accommodations, and most meals.  Group airfare will be arranged at an estimated cost of $1,700 round trip, and a Visa ($155) will be required.  A $500 non-refundable deposit will be due on October 15th. Students will be assessed tuition during the Spring semester for IB 3580.

Calendar:

This is a 10 day in-country trip that is to take place in the beginning of January during Winter Break. The dates are January 4th – January 15th, 2013.

Program Objective:

Destination Vietnam will expose students to a multifaceted country with diverse cultures, traditions and religions. This program combines a unique blend of academic, corporate and cultural experiences.

Academic Style:

International is a state of mind. It is the extra dimension, a sense of adventure, openness, tolerance and respect for what is different. In a global environment, thinking internationally is the key to success. Students interested in an international career get a head start by going to Vietnam where they are immediately immersed in an international setting. Students learn to understand cultural and behavioral differences from the first day.

Currency, Money and Banking:

The official currency is the Dong (VND). Traveler's checks in U.S. dollars should be exchanged in banks or exchange offices because very few businesses will accept them. Traveler's checks in Dong can be purchased in the U.S. from specialized banks or in any major banks in Vietnam.
