| Mayors Conference - Seizing the Opportunity of E-Government |
|
The conference was co-presented by Temple University's Center for Competitive Government,the City of New York, and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). NYC Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani and NYSE chairman and CEO Dick Grasso hosted the conference. The Center for Sustainable Communities at Temple University Ambler was the principal underwriter of the conference. Additional
underwriters included Computer Associates
International, Enterasys, The conference was held in the NYSE Boardroom and New York City's new Emergency Operations Center located in the World Trade Center. In addition, Mayor Giuliani hosted a welcoming reception and dinner at his residence, Gracie Mansion, on Tuesday, June 26.
This collaboration between private and public sector executives will lead to new solutions as we face the challenge of transforming municipal governance in the 21st Century. These innovations will spread far beyond the attendees, as proceedings of the conference will be widely distributed. |

Mayors
can learn much from one another, as well as from private sector leaders,
about utilizing technology to manage municipalities more effectively and
efficiently. As such, this bipartisan conference was restricted to a small
group of mayors of cities with populations of 100,000 or more and to a
select group of CEOs who have successfully pioneered technological innovations
of relevance to local government. 
Speakers
included the mayors of New York, Phoenix, Charlotte, Durham and Raleigh,
and top executives from the New York Stock Exchange, AOL-Time Warner,
Cisco, Computer Associates International, Enterasys and Omnicom. Participants
included prominent public and private sector officials. After each presentation
there was a discussion among participants and speakers about lessons learned
from the presentation.
