Enterprise Management Consulting Practice

At Temple University’s Fox Business of School, we believe that the most effective management education is thoroughly engaged in helping business and community leaders solve their most critical strategic challenges.  The Fox School’s Enterprise Management Consulting Practice (EMC) provides structured opportunities for top managers, faculty and business students to work and learn together by combining management theory and technique that tackle the most pressing strategic problems faced by organizations throughout the world.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONFERENCE

Temple University’s Second Annual Social Entrepreneurship Conference:
Investing in Urban Communities: Balancing Growth and Inclusion

Temple University held its Second Annual Social Entrepreneurship Conference on April 11, 2007 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  This roundtable event entitled, “Investing in the Urban Communities: Balancing Growth and Inclusion” was held in the Student Activities Center on the university’s main campus. The panelists focused on ownership and participation structures that would enhance the flows of financial and social capital for all stakeholders involved in urban development. The panelists were as follows:

Following the roundtable event, a luncheon was held and several themes were further discussed. General themes that emerged from the conference are as follows: process, data needs and sustainability.

The themes presented (process, data needs and sustainability) allowed for the creation of action ideas to be addressed in the years to come. Temple University should continue to build relationships within the community bringing partners into the planning processes in order to benefit the community. The university should also provide valuable seminars to the students and members of the community. University-community collaboration is spearheading the process to ensure continuity of this dialogue. The next conference will be held in the spring of 2009.

Center for Student Professional Development

The Fox Center for Student Professional Development is not only a valuable resource for Fox Business School students; it also provides valuable professional development workshops and opportunities for people within the Philadelphia community.

Inroads Program

The CSPD supports the INROADS program and has co-hosted many events over the past eight years.  The INROADS program caters to minority students and works to place them in corporate internships.  Starting in high school through college, all-star students with competitive GPAs are given the chance to work with corporate companies and gain real world experience.

To help facilitate the transition, the CSPD has helped host summer ‘talent pool’ events where students and parents can come to learn more about the INROADS program.  In addition, there are resume and professional development workshops.  The extensive training and summer assignments prepare students for internships in the fall and the transition from school to corporate life.

Project HOME

Project HOME is another local organization that the CSPD has worked with in its community outreach efforts.  Project HOME works to prepare various people for the transition back into the workforce.  As part of their services, they provide education and employment assistance.  The CSPD assisted in providing workshops for people in the program.  Various professional development topics including resume workshops and interviewing etiquette skills.

Youth Mentoring & Network

The CSPD has partnered with many different local organizations like the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and Business Mentoring Youth (BMY) to hold business workshops touching on key issues like business etiquette, expectations in the workplace and internship readiness. Some other notable organizations that have partnered with the CSPD include Victory Schools and the Philadelphia Youth Network.

The Fox School is working with the Philadelphia youth community to build business professionals for tomorrow. With these initiatives and collaborations of talented students, staff and strength in numbers, the CSPD has given back to its community.

Philadelphia National College Fair

The Philadelphia National College Fair is designed to help students and parents navigate the college admission process. This free event is held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, PA, is sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling. At the fair, students and parents will have had the opportunity to meet one-on-one with admission representatives from a wide range of national and international, public and private, 2-year and 4-year colleges and universities. Participants learned about admission requirements, financial aid, course offerings, campus environment, and other information pertinent to the college selection process.  In addition to being able to speak to college representatives one-on-one, attendees can attend any one of the 10 or more workshops. 

Mastery Charter

Mock Interviews | The mock interview is a crucial step in the internship preparation process for Mastery Charter High School students.  This is where students learn the importance of presenting themselves well, speaking clearly and confidently and responding intelligently to questions.

Career Day | Career Day is an opportunity for Mastery Charter High School students to attend three different panel sessions on different career paths. We share our experiences and how we got to where we are today. Students in each of the sessions asked some great questions. There was also a chance to network with the students and learn a bit more about their experiences and interests. 

Victory Schools of Philadelphia

Young Women’s Leadership School at Rhodes | The vision of the Young Women's Leadership School at Rhodes (TYWLS) is to prepare young women for success in college, careers and community activism. 

Young Men’s Leadership School at FitzSimmons | The Young Men's Leadership School at FitzSimmons is the first and only all male single-sex neighborhood public schools in Philadelphia. The school is designed as a leadership school and its academic goals include providing the resources required to ensure students of all academic levels are challenged to perform to the best of their ability.

The response from the school administration and the students was very positive.

This year, the students from both schools came to Temple for the workshops. Rooms were reserved in the Tuttleman Learning Center. In addition to the sessions, CSPD presented on Resume Development and Interview skills, there were additional sessions on “Being your own CEO,” “Starting Your Own Business” and Office Etiquette.

NBC 10 Expo

It is a smart show for consumers interested in expanding their knowledge base of finance, personal safety, careers, education, travel, communications and home owning. We want our attendees to learn about consumer products and services that are available to help them get the most for their money, keep their families safe and much, much more!  Some examples of seminar ideas could be protecting yourself against fraud, how to protect your computer and buying a digital camera.

Center for International Business Education and Research

The Centers for International Business Education and Research (CIBER) were created under the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 to increase and promote the nation's capacity for international understanding and economic enterprise. Administered by the U.S. Department of Education under Title VI Part B of the Higher Education Act of 1965, the CIBER program links the manpower and information needs of U.S. business with the international education, language training and research capacities of universities across the U.S.

Thirty-one universities were designated as centers that serve as regional and national resources to businesses, students and academics. Together, the CIBER form a powerful network focused on improving American competitiveness and providing comprehensive service and programs that help U.S. businesses succeed in global markets.

» Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute

Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute

The Fox School of Business and Innovation and Entrepreneurship Institute proactively promote entrepreneurial spirit throughout all 17 schools and colleges of Temple University.

Working in tandem with the Temple Small Business Development Center, the IEI's structured learning opportunities include the Temple University Council on Entrepreneurship, the 3-Phase Business Innovation Competition, the Global Entrepreneurship in Technology, the Enterprise Management Consulting Programs, the League for Entrepreneurial Women, Major Entrepreneurship Conferences, Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame, the Entrepreneurship Major/Minor, Mentor and Investor Networks, Internships and the Innovation Lab.

Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures

Mid-Atlantic Diamond Ventures provides support to early-stage science and high technology businesses throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.  MADV encourages and assists entrepreneurs with innovative        scientific ideas or commercially viable technologies to start and grow their companies into successful, sustainable business.  MADV forums showcase about 30 companies annually, and have helped raise over $115 million over the last six years; over 30% of their companies have received funding.  In addition, MADV serves investors in the region searching for viable companies and entrepreneurs looking for alliances and acquisitions.  MADV forums feature educational speakers who provide an invaluable learning experience for entrepreneurs.

Business Leaders Academy 

The Business Leaders Academy reach out to honors-level high school seniors throughout the greater Philadelphia region and provide training and coaching in entrepreneurship. Students generate business ideas, determine their feasibility and create comprehensive business plans.  The BLA has been offered in the summer for at least a decade and was created as a counter to Philadelphia “brain drain.”

Entrepreneurship Internship Program

This internship program, which is a requirement for entrepreneurship majors, provides local businesses with support at no cost while providing students with valuable experience.

League for Entrepreneurial Women

The League for Entrepreneurial Women provides various networking, educational and business support for women with companies in the region. The league also hosts annual conferences to promote entrepreneurial leadership among Temple University students and focuses on timely issues impacting entrepreneurial businesswomen.

Encouraging Volunteerism

Chris Pavlides, the executive director of IEI sits on the board of various regional organizations including Entrepreneurs Forum of Greater Philadelphia, MAC Alliance, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers and the U.S. Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.  Chris is also the founder and chairperson of the Greater Philadelphia Senior Executive Group.

Small Business Development Center

Small Business Development Center (SBDC) mission is to help small business grow and succeed. We provide high quality business management consulting and training for aspiring entrepreneurs and small emerging growth companies in Southeastern Pennsylvania. 

The SBDC is committed to community development and works with Community Development Corporations that represent over 1000 small businesses in the region.

Ongoing Community Outreach

Consulting | Temple University Small Business Development Center offers free business consulting to small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs. Highly qualified consultants provide help with the set-up and improvement of the day-to-day operations of companies. Our consultants can provide professional one-on-one assistance on nearly all aspects of business formation and operation.

Education Programs | Classes are available in the following areas: business planning, business operations, human resources, accounting, finance, taxes, marketing, sales and legal issues. There are also excellent training opportunities in international trade, environmental, government procurement and technology commercialization.
