Enrollment Checklist

Confirm your enrollment checklist items before August 1!

 1.  Confirm your enrollment

Submit your deposit and confirmation form to admissions, if you haven't already.

 2.  Mark your calendar for your required MBA Essentials

                       

                        ALL students - August 1, 2011

All students will receive a detailed calendar of events during MBA Essentials, the mandatory, four-week comprehensive orientation. Due to the intensity we ask that you clear your calendars from 8:30am-6:30pm, Monday through Saturday, unless instructed otherwise, until August 25.

 3.  Purchase a Laptop

                       MBA students are required to have a laptop. 

                       We strongly recommend PC laptops.

                       Media services will not support MAC computers.

 4.  International Students ONLY

 5.  Apply for Financial Aid

                         If you qualify for graduate student loans, you must submit:

                         - your FAFSA form

                         - complete an Entrance Interview

                         - establish a Direct Deposit Account in TUPortal (see # 7 below)

                                  - complete the 2011 - 2012 Graduate Enrollment Form - All Campuses             

6. Activate Your Temple Email Account

                (required for accessing TUportal, Black Board and other applications)

 

7. Required Reading for BA 5087 Leadership and Professional Development Practicum

This is a three-part course that runs throughout the entire first year: Part I is during Essentials; Part II is during Semester I, and; Part III is during Semester II.

Effective Leadership has been shown to have a strong, positive correlation with business outcomes such as profitability, shareholder value, revenue growth, turnover reduction, and customer loyalty. Leadership concepts provide a foundation for effective long-term, profitable business performance. Strong business leaders possess an integrated, cross-functional business perspective which is founded, grounded, shaped and continuously enhanced by solid leadership principles and processes.

Please read the following book by the start of MBA Essentials, August 1, 2011:

8. Fox MBA Discussion Board 

Our  MBA Essentials 2011 site is set up in Blackboard,

accessible via TU Portal.

  • Click on MBA Essentials 2011 which is located under "My Organizations."

To access Blackboard you need to have a TU email address and password. (See Number 6 above, "Activate Your Temple Email Account".)

9.  Class Registration

You do not need to register for Fall 2011 classes. Your academic advisor will register you for your Fall 2011 classes on your behalf. Once registered, you will be able to see your class roster in TUPortal.

10. Enroll for Health Insurance

All incoming MBA students participating in the Leadership Retreat to Stony Acres are required to have health insurance coverage.

Students must either opt to purchase a TU policy or complete a waiver form certifying that they have outside insurance coverage. If you choose to opt out, complete the waiver form and return this to the Director of the Full Time MBA & MS Programs during the first week of Essentials.

 
11. Purchase Statistics Textbook

             Basic Statistical Ideas for Managers, Hildebrand, David, et al., (2004)

12. Complete Forms for MBA Program:

      Submit to Programs staff on August 1 (first day of MBA Essentials)

            Travel Release Liability

            Photo Release

            Medical Emergency Contact

13. Upload Biography (Bio) and Head Shot (Photo):

Please upload a short biography with a picture to the Discussion Board in Blackboard labeled, "Bios and Photos" (You will see two folders: one for FMBA students, the other for IMBA students. Please upload your bio and photo in the folder of your particular program.) The bio should be a paragraph or two, highlighting who you are, where you are from, your educational and professional background, and why you are pursuing an MBA.  Feel free to be creative.

14.  Review what you need to bring to the Leadership Retreat scheduled for
       August 13 in the Pocono Mountains.
 15.  Prepatory Software

Many students have found the following "pre-MBA" software (available through Amazon or other online vendors) helpful when preparing to enter the Full-Time MBA program. Completion is not required and we are not endorsing any one product over another.

MBA Survival Kit
This set of four interactive CD-ROMs was developed by leading MBA professors and provides a review of accounting, finance, quantitative skills and statistics as well as individualized feedback, clear explanations, animated graphics, and case studies.

MBA Primer – Thomson South-Western
These interactive programs prepare the incoming MBA student for the quantitative areas of business. There are four courses in all (managerial economics, financial accounting, business statistics and finance) and you can purchase them as a package or separately.

Ivy Software: Business Math & Statistics, Capital Budgeting, Financial Accounting
These CDs and accompanying textbooks provide a review of key concepts and subsequent practice questions.
