The labs are located in the basement of Speakman Hall
All registered students can pick up their login-id for e-mail from Computer Services in the basement of Wachman Hall. Please have your valid Temple Student ID.
From the Unix menu as mentioned above, you can select lynx for access to the World Wide Web. This is a text based browser. Students can also access the World Wide Web in the lab or from home via a graphical browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. The Web can be accessed from home using a PPP account provided by the University. Contact the Student Research Lab for further information.
Yes they are. The basement of Speakman Hall is where the handicapped entrance is. The labs are equipped to allow students that are wheelchair bound to access computers that are reserved for the handicapped.
Labs 26 and 27 of the computers have Office 4.3, and labs 6 and 29 have Office '97.
The labs are staffed with consultants that are there to answer any questions students might have.
Labs 26 and 27 are also used as classrooms. When classes are in session in either lab no one other than students enrolled in the class may be in the lab.
Yes lab 6 is equipped with zip drives and Compact Disc Drives.
No, the lab hours remain the same.
There are several reasons why. The most common is that the software you may have at home is not compatible with the software in the labs.
There is a password so that we can prevent unnecessary printing on the laser printers. There is no password to print on the Epson printer.
Highlight the region with the mouse, next click the dropdown list for the font and choose the font you want.
Click the format icon and choose paragraph, when the window opens click the dropdown box under line spacing and choose double-spaced.
Highlight the text you want to animate, click on slide show then on preset or custom animation, then choose what type of animation you want to use.
Click Insert. Then click picture, you may insert pictures from file or from the clip art.
In order to merge slides from different diskettes first you must save the file which you are adding to on the desktop of the PC you are using this will be the master file. After saving to the desktop, close out the program, remove the first diskette then insert the second diskette. Open the files, both the master on the desktop and the file with the additions then simply cut and paste.
Click format then bullet. Then just choose the type of bullet you want to use.
Click file then print, when the print window will appear click the drop box next to the print what option and choose 3 or 6 slides per page. Then click ok and the print job will be on its way.
This is similar to merging papers or sliders. First save to the desktop or temp file in the c:/ drive. Then remove the diskette and save to the second.
FTP is a file transfer protocol, which allows you to upload and down, load files in your e-mail account. Once you open FTP click connect at the bottom. A second window will appear, next to Host name you should type the name of your Unix account. Next to user ID type your user ID (the part of e-mail address before the @ but not including the @). Next to Password type in your password for your e-mail account, then you are connected. Once you are connected on the right will be a list of files and directories in your account. On the left are the files, directories and drives on your PC. Between the two are two buttons with arrows each box's arrows are pointing in opposite directions. One toward the e-mail files and the other toward the PC files. To move files from the PC to your e-mail account or vise versa highlight the file and highlight the destination of the file and simply click the arrow in the direction you want to move the file/files.
Files that are sent via are called attachments these can be any type of file. First FTP the file into your account, second compose the email message and next to the attachments line type the file name including the extension (for example .doc , .jpg , .html , .ppt) . Complete your e-mail message and sent it.
Open the e-mail message with the attachment. Type V to view the attachment then at the next screen type S to save the file. You will be prompted for a file name, name it, then press enter. Get out of your e-mail account. Use FTP to get the file to diskette so that it may be viewed.
