How to Change MS Office Outlook 2003 Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
Summary
This SOP describes how to change the Microsoft Outlook 2003 Outgoing mail server (SMTP).
- Click Tools on the menu bar (Figure 1).
Figure 1: Microsoft Outlook 2003 Menu bar. - Click E-mail Accounts and E-mail Accounts wizard screen (Figure 2) should appear.
Figure 2: E-mail Accounts wizard screen. - Under the E-mail heading, click View or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next
- On the E-mail Account setting selection screen (Figure 3), select imap.temple.edu or pop.temple.edu (depends on the Incoming mail server configuration) then click on Change
Figure 3: E-mail Accounts setting selection. - In the Outgoing mail server field (see Figure 4a or Figure 4b), type in smtpauth.temple.edu then click on More Settings...

Figure 5: Advanced Settings. - Under the Incoming Server (IMAP or POP3) heading, check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
- Under the Outgoing server (SMTP) heading, check This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)
- Under the Server Timeouts heading, click and move the time slider to the middle (approximately 5 minutes) then click on OK
- E-mail Account setting selection (Figure 6) should appear and click on Finish
