About
The Journal of International Management (JIM) was inaugurated in 1995 and has been edited by Dr. Masaaki “Mike” Kotabe since 2002. JIM is housed at The Fox School of Business and Management, at Temple University. Elsevier publishes JIM, in affiliation with The Fox School.
Since 2000 the Fox School, under the leadership of Dean M. Moshe Porat, has coordinated the International Business Research Forum, highlighting a special international business research theme reflective of the challenges of the time. Invited researchers from around the world converge on Temple's main campus, to share and critique research on a variety of timely topics within the annual theme. With the guidance of Dr. Kotabe, Editor and professor of Marketing and International Business, the Annual I.B. Forum has risen to new heights, with selected research issues being published in a Special Edition of the Journal.
JIM is devoted to advancing an understanding of issues in the management of global enterprises, global management theory, and practice; while also providing theoretical and managerial implications useful for the further development of research. It is designed to serve an audience of academic researchers and educators, as well as business professionals, with an interest in risk management, organizational behavior and design, human resources, and cross-cultural management.
Four times a year, JIM publishes theoretical and empirical research, with at least one special issue emphasizing a timely topic, solicits literature reviews and book reviews that include a guide for improved theory and international management research as well as contributions that advance educational methodology in the range of international management fields.
JIM is fast gaining recognition and visibility in a competitive IB market and differentiates itself with one of the fastest review processes in the industry - an average 38 day turn around on reviews and 24 hours on desk rejects. The quality and selectiveness of the editorial process is reflected in a 9% acceptance rate.
JIM has recently published cutting edge research including the Special Issues on “Frontiers of Research in International Business’, ”Far from Silicon Valley: How emerging economies are re-shaping our understanding of global entrepreneurship”, “Emerging Multinationals: Outward Foreign Direct Investment from Emerging and Developing Economies”, “50 years of IB Research: What have we achieved, and What have we not yet achieved”, “ The Emerging CEO Agenda in Multinational Companies” and “Global Sourcing and Value Creation: Opportunities and Challenges”.
The internationalized editorial board helps further enhance the reputation of JIM, by bringing their expertise from different research areas to the review process. The Board represents more than 50 institutions, spanning 20 countries worldwide. JIM regularly participates in Meet the Editors Session each year at several international business and management conference venues.
Electronic downloads, a reasonable indicator of readership, have increased dramatically since Dr. Kotabe took over editorial leadership. There were less than 7,000 downloads in 2001 compared to more than 155,000 in 2011. JIM was formally accepted for inclusion in the Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) in 2009. The acceptance is an enormous accomplishment for a fairly new journal and is a testament to the journal's overall excellence.
