Mission

Our mission and agenda are shaped by the forces driving today's economy and tomorrow's emerging trends and by our continuing commitment to our region and to our community. Yet, we are always true to the vision of Temple University founder, Russell Conwell, and the core values that made his University a gateway to opportunity and prosperity for all with the talent and determination to succeed, particularly those with lesser financial means.

To ensure that our students acquire the tools and perspective that provide them with a competitive edge, we are committed to these five major themes:

  • Providing quality, student-centered business and management education founded on our traditions and values, and one that responds to the driving forces of the economy: globalization, informational technology and innovation and entrepreneurship.
  • Engaging in state-of-the-art research necessary for managing in an increasingly competitive and dynamic global economy.
  • Integrating cutting-edge information technology into teaching, learning and research at all levels.
  • Providing the best professional development opportunities for our students, faculty and staff with special efforts to facilitate development of ethical values, social networking skills and leadership skills.
  • Linking, through our curriculum, research and outreach to the dominant and growth industries in our region: financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals/biotechnology, information technology, and tourism and hospitality.

The Fox School is committed to the continuous professional development of its faculty and staff. The Fox School also works to serve the school's diverse stakeholders and engage them in the improvement and support of its programs.

History

With more than 6,500 students and 170 full-time faculty, The Fox School is the largest, most comprehensive business school in the region and among the largest in the world. Established in 1918, The Richard J. Fox School of Business and Management name was conferred in 1999. The School has a long history of innovation in education, introducing new curriculum and programs in advance of current business trends.

In 1942, it added an MBA program. By 1970, when the MBA became a vital tool for career development, the program was already well-known in the region. The continued expansion and strengthening of the program led to its accreditation in 1973 by AACSB, the International Association for Management Education. The PhD program in Economics was established in 1976 and is now one of three accredited PhD programs at The Fox School. Accreditation ensures that the school continually meets high standards in admissions policy, curricula, faculty, library and computer facilities, and educational innovation and technology.

With over 42,000 graduates, two-thirds of whom live and work in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, The Fox School is the primary source of management talent in the region. This important network of business associates continues to connect with The Fox School by mentoring and advising students; speaking at events; introducing employers to the school, resulting in internship, recruitment and hands-on learning opportunities; and providing financial support.
